Day by Day Itinerary
Because each of our Kavieng expeditions follows a different itinerary, it is difficult to provide a day by day accounting of all of the activities that your trip may include. The following is a description, however, of what our Kavieng trips are likely to include:

  • First Dive Day: Our first dive day will include two afternoon dives, plus a night dive.
Scuba diving. (Kavieng, Papua New Guinea)

  • Pelagic Animals: Huge schools of big eye trevally and barracuda will surround us, while Spanish mackerel, dog tooth tuna and eagle rays cruise the reef edges. Grey reef, white, silver and black tip sharks will glide through the blue backdrop of the Bismarck Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

  • Wall Dives: Many wall dives, including the famous Chapmans Reef dive, are possible. Chapmans Reef, a natural amphitheatre where huge schools of fish gather to feed in the strong current, is an amazing pelagic spectacle not to be missed!

  • Pass Dives: Exciting dive opportunities abound at the mouths of the passes that open into the lagoon separating New Hanover and New Ireland islands. The reefs in these passes are covered with soft corals and gorgonians. Countless species of fish, from sand gobies to eagle rays, congregate at the edges of the reefs. Assuming that the current cooperates, we will make a variety of dives at these passes.

  • Nautilus Dives: On one occasion during the course of the cruise, a nautilus trap will be set, which will enable divers to photograph live nautilus. The nautilus are safely returned to
School of fish. (Kavieng, Papua New Guinea)
500 feet (150 meters) before being released.

  • World War II Wrecks: Divers on our Kavieng trips will be able to explore the sites of several World War II wrecks, including the "Nakajima Kate," an airplane in superb condition, a large freighter and a two-man mini-submarine. Abundant marine life is attracted to these wrecks, providing wonderful photographic opportunities for those who are not wreck fanatics.

  • Ecucha Patch: The Ecucha Patch, where the wreck of the scuttled fishing vessel, the "Der Yang," lies, is also on our itinerary. The wreck site generally hosts huge schools of big eye trevally and barracuda and is accordingly a great setting for wide-angle photography.

  • Shark Dives: We will make several shark dives, affording us the opportunity to observe these denizens of the deep in a completely natural environment. On past excursions, we have been fortunate to observe as many as forty of these magnificent creatures at one time. We
Our dive boat. (Papua New Guinea)
have been able to watch them hunting and predating, mating, being cleaned or simply hanging motionless in the current. Our best shark action typically occurs at Albatross Channel, Chamisso Channel, Eagle Ray Pass, Valerie's Reef and Chapmans Reef.

  • Cultural Experiences: We will enjoy several island excursions, where Papua New Guinea's unique culture can be experienced. Global Adrenaline also offers a ten-day tour, which affords the opportunity to visit and enjoy the local hospitality of the unspoiled paradise of Mansava village on Tsoi Island. If you are interested in this option, please notify us at the time of booking.

  • Last Day: Our last day typically includes two or three morning dives before we return to port.
